Photography, Retouching, Albums & Products

The Essentials of my Italian wedding photography:

  • Exclusive wedding and event photography where no job is too big or too small.

  • Due to the amount of time that each assignment takes, I only accept a limited amount of jobs each year.

  • I prefer to attend the whole event from start to finish.

  • I use some of the best equipment available and have multiple backups.

  • Post-production and gentle retouching is an essential part of my work.

  • Stunning “Made in Italy” albums and prints are available.

  • I work closely with planners, stylists, and videographers.

Question: Do You Work Alone Or With An Assistant? Answer: Both.

At most events, I work alone. I believe your wedding is a private and intimate moment that you want to share with the most important people in your lives. Photographers and videographers have the privilege of documenting your celebration. Still, you don’t want your day overrun with cameras and people like a film set!

In most cases, one photographer is better because:

  1. Less distraction. You only have to focus on one person. If you have two photographers and two videographers filming you, it is confusing to know which one you have to look at.

  2. It is easier to get to know them and therefore share some chemistry. That means better photos.

  3. For me, it’s about quality, not quantity. I’d rather have fewer high-quality photos rather than thousands of mediocre ones.

  4. One photographer means a consistent style of photography from start to finish.

Storyteller

My job is to create a photographic record that tells the story of your Italian wedding with stunning photography. I prefer to photograph complete events from start to finish. I will accept shorter jobs, but I prefer to photograph your entire wedding because a storyteller, likes to tell the whole story and not just a part of it. Also, I would never undertake more than one job a day, so it doesn’t really make a difference if it requires 8 or 12 hours.

I’m told my style is unique; you can read my thoughts about it and get a good feel for my work while browsing the portfolios, or you can view the real wedding galleries.

Equipment And Retouching

I shoot digital. I like film and acknowledge that it has some interesting and valid characteristics. Still, its limitations don’t match my style of photography. Film photography works well in bright situations with lots of lights. Poorly lit rooms, dark churches, candlelit receptions, and nighttime parties are not suitable for film photography.

I post-process my images and also retouch. If you shoot film, you can’t do this. Well, you can, but it wouldn’t make much sense as you need to shoot film, send it away to a laboratory, and then receive a digital scan so that you then have a digital file to retouch. So you may as well have just shot digital in the first place.

I retouch my images in a sympathetic and understanding way. The idea is to enhance the inherent qualities of the photos but keep them looking natural. I think retouching is vital for many reasons. A bride or groom can spend months preparing for their wedding to then find that the stress gets to them, and they break out in a spot or two, or imagine a mosquito bites you! If you shoot on film, then those unique gifts you received on your wedding day will be there to stay. However, with digital, I can take care of those issues quite easily.

Albums And Prints – Italian Wedding Photography

To give life to your photos, you need to print them. I create fine art wedding albums. Amazing craftsmen make each one by hand in Italy. The materials are gorgeous, including prestigious leathers, suedes, fabrics, and woods. A wedding album should be a family heirloom for future generations. As such, it has to be stunning and of very high quality. Enlargements such as canvases and wraps are also available and will look incredible on the walls of your home.

You can read some reviews or see some of my publications. You might also like to read my advice on how to select the right photographer.

Or learn more about my photography by reading these answers to the commonly asked questions:

What’s your background, and how many weddings have you photographed?

At the start of my working career, I worked as a graphic designer. I naturally went into photography, as high-quality images were a must to create beautiful websites, brochures, and marketing material. I gained experience in commercial photography as well as beauty, fashion, and even architecture.

In 2003 my wife (who is Italian) created one of the first wedding planning agencies for foreigners looking to get married in Italy. As we needed original photographic material for our own marketing and website, I used to take pictures during our events and give them to the couple as a gift. Bizarrely, the couples wrote to me saying that they much preferred my photographs to those of their professional wedding photographer. This is how my career as a wedding photographer began over 15 years ago.

Since then I have photographed hundreds of weddings all over the world and I still love it!

Do you work alone or with another photographer?

I prefer to work alone as I find other photographers are a distraction for you. However, I appreciate there are situations where another photographer is a must. However, having one photographer means that you only need to deal with and get to know one person. If your event is a small one, then it also keeps things intimate. Sometimes I have a non-photographing assistant to help with logistics such as driving, parking, or moving equipment. If you require more than one photographer, that’s not a problem. See the next question!

We need two photographers can you bring someone else?

If you feel that you need another photographer present at the event, then we can discuss this. I have photographed weddings with 400 people present and covered everything on my own. However, I do accept that there are some locations where perhaps it would be good to have another photographer. For example, venues that are far apart or demanding in some manner. Another reason for a second photographer may be that you have a large wedding with lots of guests and you would like for every guest to have a photo. The best approach is to discuss things. By talking about your requirements, I will understand exactly what you need and be able to deliver precisely that.

Do you speak English fluently? Do you speak other languages?

English is my mother tongue. I also speak Italian fluently.

Do you have any advice on choosing a photographer?

Choose a photographer whose style you like and primarily base your choice on the style and quality of their photos. Make sure you can communicate with them easily as being unable to talk to someone will only create an awkward feeling. Better yet, if you get on well with the photographer you choose, then it’s more likely you will be comfortable with their presence on the day. Thus, leading to a relaxed photographic experience and better photos.

A photographer with a regularly updated website shows they are working and active. If the photographers’ portfolio is small, then I would suggest you ask to see further examples of work. Of course, anyone can buy a camera, shoot a wedding, and find a few good shots in a few thousand. Look for a large body of consistent work.

Make sure the photographer you choose is actually the photographer who will be photographing your wedding as some studios use multiple photographers and send who is available on the day. All photographers have a different eye and style, so this might lead to you getting a different result from the one you initially chose.

Does our wedding cost less if we are only a few people?

I cannot give a discount for smaller groups as I can only shoot one wedding a day and a limited amount each year. Therefore it wouldn’t be good business for me to give a discount for only 2 people when I could easily have an offer for a wedding with 100 people.

Do you give the RAW files?

I do not give the RAW files, and this is standard policy among professional photographers. You receive high-resolution JPEG files that are perfect for making large prints and enlargements if needed.

Are the files watermarked or protected?

The files are not watermarked or protected in any way. They are high-resolution JPEG files that can easily be printed in large format.

Where will you work?

I’m available for weddings anywhere in the world. I have photographed weddings in the UK, the USA, France, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Switzerland, Dubai, Thailand, Hong Kong, South Africa, and more. I will consider any location, and the more adventurous, the better!

Do we receive all the photos?

You will receive all the original photos (minus some time wasters where eyes are closed, etc.). These are corrected high-resolution images in JPEG format that you can print in large sizes. Depending on the wedding, this is usually about 900 images. Of these 900 images, a selection is made, and these edited and retouched further and placed in a separate folder. You receive the original versions of these images, as well as the retouched versions.

Did you take all the photos on your website?

Yes. Every single photo on my website was taken by me.

Do you offer albums or books?

Yes, I offer stunning wedding albums, which are a digital wedding book style of the collection. I use a combination of photojournalistic and artistic imagery and personally design the artbook layout specifically for your images.

– I also offer the possibility for you to choose the photos that will go in your album.
– You will see proof of the collection before it goes to print, and you can request changes.
– You should receive your fine-art book about 2-3 months after your event.

How do you work, and what can we expect from your coverage of our event?

I work around your event, and in the background and let things flow, I will step up and direct you if I see that this is needed or requested. Most coverage is photojournalistic apart from the group photos. Also, your couple photos are directed as that would feel weird having a photo session, and the photographer doesn’t say anything!

I believe that at a wedding there is never enough time to photograph everything, so we have to prioritize things. I focus on photographing what you feel is most important to you and avoid wasting time doing things that perhaps on reflection are less important.

Here you can see examples of my photography during the different parts of the day:

Location > The landscapes, architecture, and ambiance of your venue.
Details > Creative photos of the details.
Men getting ready > Stylish shots of the men getting ready.
Bridal Preparations > The bridal party and family preparing.
The Ceremony > Respectful, discrete coverage of the ceremony.
Cocktails and Group photos > The drinks reception and group photos.

What is your photography style?

To some up my style of photography, I’d say, “it is fashion-oriented modern contemporary classical candid pseudo-photo-journalistic reportage portraiture with details…” At this point, I can hear you cry, “What on earth is that!” What it means is that I don’t like being categorized, and I do not believe you can thoroughly photograph a wedding in one style of photography. Hence, you have to do them all to get the most extensive coverage of probably the most important day of your lives so far.

I leave you to enjoy your wedding day without having a photographer in your face. Preferring to work unnoticed from a distance to capture emotions and spontaneity, most people say they were unaware of me at work. However, if necessary, I will guide you and do my best to make your day go perfectly.

Will you photograph every person at our wedding?

If you are a very small group, say 15-20 people then I don’t mind taking a photo of everyone as long as I feel that the other areas of the event have been covered sufficiently. At any wedding, my priority is the couple and close family. Hopefully, you book me as I offer a style of photography that appeals to you, please understand that my priority is to obtain these images for you and not pass my time snapping a photo of everyone there which anyone is capable of doing.

What makes you different from other wedding photographers?

Perhaps my style, possibly my commitment. I hope my images resonate with you. My goal is to make you feel drawn to my images. I am a perfectionist, and I dedicate myself 100% to everything I do.

I really have a passion for my work and I believe you need to trust and believe in your photographer to allow them to do their job. If discussions before booking are difficult and lack in chemistry or trust between us, then I may suggest that you find another photographer. You need to be 100% comfortable and trust your photographer. This is very essential to get good results. I want you to get the best photos possible, and it doesn’t matter whether they are mine or someone else’s.

Photographers have a huge responsibility. After all, as the cliché says, “when the music has stopped, and the flowers have wilted, the only things left are memories and photos.”

Where are you based?

I am based in London and Oxford wedding photographer, covering all of the UK and abroad as I am also an International Destination wedding photographer. Especially the London and Devon areas which is included of travel. Certain areas of the UK will look to have a small milage fee included. This is normally 30 miles outside of London. As mentioned, I am also a destination wedding photographer. Having previously covered Atlanta, Marrakesh, Venice, Malta, Cappadocia Turkey, Qatar, Santorini and also a wedding photographer Italy. Extra fees for destination weddings are kept minimal, meaning I work with you to find the best flights and accommodation. (normally the night before and the night of the wedding max) which you can see on my price page.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. I have public liability insurance to 5 million, professional indemnity insurance and kit cover. And can provide a copy to your venue if they request this. Some grade 1 listed buildings require 10 million, so my insurance can be increased where needed but would be added to the invocie- this would be a minimal cost for a 1 day event.

Do you travel abroad?

Yes! I have been so lucky to travel and have been to Marrakesh, Qatar, Italy, Santorini, Atlanta, Malta and soon to be Portugal, France, Croatia, Sorrento, Lake Como. I work with couples to find the best rates re travel and flights. normally charge 1 or 2 night stay only (spending on start times of the wedding). So taking your wedding photographer abroad doesn’t have to be expensive, but means you can build that relationship before your travel and have security after the wedding day.

Do you require a booking fee?

Yes. This is £200 to secure your day. This is non refundable and will mean the day is fully your- this fee covers securing your date and turning away any other bookings for this date as well as admin, contract creation and any phone calls leading unto the booking. I am afraid I cannot hold dates without a booking fee or the paperwork coming back. If you are keen to have me let me know. Often there can be several enquiries for one date and if a couple come back first with the paperwork they will be booked in the diary. Please do not presume I am holding your date as I do not wish to disappoint any couples.

Do we have any paperwork to fill in?

Yes, although only a small amount. It is important that the agreement is signed, as this can be a long relationship with some couples booking more than 2 years in advance. This contract informs all parties what is expected of each other as well goes into editing, delivery etc. You will also have a booking form with all the important details I would need to know for the day- this would be my go-to document. These are provided via e-sign for a simple process. No printing or scanning required! Until this comes back with the deposit I cannot hold the date.

Do you do engagement shoots?

Yes, as a creative wedding photographer in London I think these are a great idea,  these come automatically with the 12 hour package but can be removed if you don’t want this. Or you can add an engagement shoot onto any of the other package you would like. As a Cotswold wedding photographer, I also know some lovely locations arounds Arlington Row, Lower Slaughter, Oxford and the countryside. These are done during the weekdays.

Are we able to pay the amount in instalments?

Yes, this is completely fine. We can discuss payment terms and decide the best steps forward. Noted down on your account and invoiced when you need them.

I wish to tweak my package, is this possible?

Of course. All packages are a guide and we can add or take away items as required and I can provide you with a tailor made quote. Just let me know what you might be looking for.

Whats next ?

Drop me and email and say ‘Hi’ and we can speak about your day. I would love to hear from you.

Do we get the RAW images?

No. I do not provide any un-edited images. Like most photographers, we do not send out any work that is un-finished. As you are hiring me for my style. This is half how I photograph and half how I edit.

I want to look at ideas and props. Can we talk about this?

Of course. I love to plan ideas with couples, the more the merrier. Send me Pinterest ideas or boards and I can alway source certain propels if needed. I often use smoke and other things in my images to create fashion inspired images.

Do you watermark your images?

No, I have really hated the watermark process, as I feel it can spoil the image. I understand it is good for marketing, so all I ask is that if you do share them on social, just give my company a little tag. I would be very grateful.

Do you edit all of the images?

Depending on your package, images are around 600+ individually edited in my own signature style as you see on the website. The only images that do not get edited are duplicate shots, test shots and people blinking! Any above and beyond editing requests such as swapping heads and removing large items wold be charged at extra as per the contract.

When will we receive our images?

Depending on the time of year, this can be between 3-6 weeks for your online gallery and USB, but ideally this is delivered beforehand. Albums are around 4 weeks from design.

Are we able to pay the amount in instalments?

Yes, this is completely fine. We can discuss payment terms and decide the best steps forward. Noted down on your account and invoiced when you need them.

Do we have a meeting beforehand?

Yes! Normally a month before we would have a phone call or zoom/whtsapp cvideo call to run through the schedule of the day, shot lists for groups and any other requirements and questions.

Do you offer extra albums and Thank you cards?

Yes! I do a smaller 20×20 parent album with the same Hand bound Italian company. As well as new for 2019 I also provide thank you cards after so many requests. These start at 75 cards and work upwards depending on how many you need. I personally design and deliver them. You can check them out on my wedding photography prices page.

How long should we leave for group and couple photos during drinks reception?

I would say at least an hour and a half minimum for drinks reception. As this allows you time to mingle, enjoy canapés as well as get the time in for group shots and the private couple moments. This allows things not to be rushed and have a mixture of all of these elements. These parts are my signature style, it is what makes me stand out from other photographers so make sure you give me enough time to create some magic!

Do we provide you a meal on the day?

It is always lovely to be offered this, as this can be a very long day and anything over 8 hours has this in my contract. But I never request anything special, whatever is easiest for you and your caterers. It also means I can re-fuel and perform much better.

Are we able to print our own images?

Yes, these come print ready at high resolution without watermarks, so you do not need to order prints through me.

How many images do we get?

This depends on the package you have. But it is normally anywhere between 400-700 images.

If you are based nearby, we can talk things through over a coffee or a drink. If you are further away, then a facetime or skype chat might be a better idea for you.

Can We Discuss The Photos Before The Wedding?

Yes, I enjoy meeting my clients ahead of their wedding - it is one of the reasons I include a free engagement shoot in most of my packages. Talking through the big day, working out timings and developing your plans is always a delight and time well spent ahead of your wedding. If you prefer to do this face to face or over the phone/through skype or via emails etc, then that is also great

...and answers

• What is your photographic style?

My style is undoubtedly reportage. I prefer to capture your emotions without any pretense. I love to tell the emotions of your story in total naturalness in order to have all the small moments of your wedding in the most spontaneous way!

• Will we also take some Formals?

The formals photos, for example with parents, bridal party or best man will be done if requested by you. They are photos that can be very important to you and even if they don't reflect my photographic style I will be happy to satisfy your request!

• Will there also be some posed photo? (couple session soot)

Also in this case the couple session photographs will be executed only if expressly requested by you. I will make you feel at ease in every way and I will try to make you always interact with each other to get, despite the pose, the expressions of happiness and naturalness. The couple session shoot service will last a maximum of 20 minutes so as not to take away precious time and allow you to enjoy the day.

• How many photos do you deliver?

I will give you an accurate selection of the photographs that will be taken during the day. The photos will be delivered within 60 working days from the wedding date and all will be digital processed with professional post-production photo programs. (Photoshop will not be used.)

• Do you work only in Sardinia?

No, I do work in Italy, Europe and all over the world. Of course, all travel expenses such as: gasoline, air tickets, ship tickets and accommodation will be your responsibility. A wedding outside my region would involve, in addition to travel expenses, also an extra service outside my work area.

• Which albums do you use and how do you go about printing?

I offer my clients two types of albums: the traditional album and the photo book. I can offer you the best Italian companies.
The photos will be chosen by you spouses and together we will agree on the layout of the album. I can of course give you advice to get a clean and elegant layout. Only after I have obtained your confirmation on the paging we proceed with the printing of your album.

• What are the payment methods?

The cost of the service is divided into several parts. I usually divide into: Confirmatory deposit, six months before the wedding, 7 days before the wedding (or wedding day) and final delivery of the work.

• What photographic equipment do you use?

I use the latest camera bodies of the "Nikon" house. The optics I use are from the “Sigma” line "art": the focal lengths cover from wide angle to telephoto. I will always carry with me at least two external flashes and light modifiers. Flashes will only be used in situations where there is a lack of light. I prefer to use natural light as long as possible.
